10 Useful Gift Ideas for New Moms

1. Hakaa/Lady Bug and Milk Storage Bags

*For moms who breastfeed* My hakaa is the most useful present that I got during my on-going baby shower! No drop of milk (liquid gold) is left behind. Since this helps collect so much milk, mama will definitely be in need of more storage bags as well. I personally prefer the Lansinoh bags because they lay really flat in comparison to the Mandela ones that I previously used.

2. Gift Cards

So, she got everything that she thought she needed during the baby shower, but oops she didn’t know she’d need to bottle feed, or that her nursing bra should be 2 sizes bigger… How would she have known the things that she really needs, or wants, to make her everyday life easier?! Gift cards are a great way to say, “don’t you worry ’bout a thing, we got you!”

3. Food

No matter if you are near or far, bringing or sending food really helps out any new mom. One less thing to do, and it is such a treat. Tiramisu literally translates to “pick me up.” My aunt, uncle, and grandparents surprised me and had food sent to me from my favorite brewery down the street from our house. Let me tell you, that burger and dessert really did TiraMiSu while I was trying to settle into my new role as a mom.

4. Fun Burp Cloths or Blankets

Really anything that keeps mom from smelling like baby spit-up or poop. Being a new mom is so magical and SO messy. There can never be too many blankets or burp cloths around, because who knows when and where she’s going to need it?!

5. Diapers and Wipes

She can never have too many. If this new mom isn’t set on a certain brand, try getting some that have a fun pattern to make changing diapers a little more exciting for everyone!

6. Easy-to-use Self-Care Products

It’s very easy to put yourself aside during the first few months (or years) of motherhood. This doesn’t help at all with the baby blues. Help mom help herself with some self-care products. My friends got me a great eye cream that lets me believe that I look more awake – a great idea! Haircare products, nail polishes, masks, anything that tells mom that she deserves to feel good about herself as a woman too!

7. Books – To read with baby or alone

I absolutely love storytime with my baby and I especially like when the books talk about a mom/baby relationship. It’s a special bond and these moments are so magical. My personal favorite is Love You Forever. For the bookworm moms out there, you can also give her some adult books that can carry her away from her responsibilities for a little while during baby’s nap time.

8. Subscription boxes

Who doesn’t love getting surprises in the mail every month?! While I was pregnant I couldn’t wait for my Bump Box to get here. This is such a special gift for any new mom out there because it’s not just great products, but it also gives her something to look forward to!

9. Help!

If you are able to, just go help her! Clean for her, do some laundry, make her dinner, watch the baby so she can take a shower without worrying. If you’re not so big on cleaning, but would still like to help, you can always get a professional cleaning person once, or regularly. This takes some stress off her plate since she just added SO much to it!

10. Anything that says, “You’re doing a great job”

After all, it’s the thought that counts. Don’t underestimate the power of a handwritten card showing your appreciation. As a new mom, it’s not uncommon to feel completely unappreciated. She is giving all of herself to this little person all day long without even a ‘thank you.’ A love note here and there could really go a long way. Maybe list a few things that you love about her, or ways that she is special. Let this mom know how she is noticed, doing a great job, and is still an important person to you.
